What I do

I develop, implement and maintain Safety Management Systems under the Canadian Aviation Regulations, ISO 45001 and applicable OH&S legislation, and I investigate incidents to establish the root and contributing causes behind them.

How I work

Every engagement starts with a needs assessment. Most organizations already have much of what they need, so the work is to find the gaps and close them while changing as little as possible about how the job already gets done.

Who you work with

You work directly with me — Jean-Pierre (JP) Mainville, a safety consultant and investigator with over two decades of experience across Canadian aviation and general industry. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, working with clients Canada-wide.

Services in detail

Safety Management Systems

Developing, implementing and maintaining an SMS under the Canadian Aviation Regulations, ISO 45001 and applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Incident and Accident Investigation

Establishing what happened, what was supposed to happen and why there was a difference, then recommending controls that prevent recurrence.

Safety Audits

Verifying that the system meant to manage safety is present and working, against ISO 45001, the CARs, OH and S legislation or your own standard.

Safety Programs and Procedures

Task inventories, standard operating procedures, hazard identification and risk assessment methods the people doing the work will actually use.

Experience

Over two decades building, implementing and auditing Safety Management Systems in Canadian aviation and general industry, from the hangar floor to the boardroom. What is on this site is not theory. It is what I have found actually works when a management system meets an operation under production pressure.

Software developed in-house

Two SaaS products come out of this practice. Both were developed by JPMain Safety rather than licensed or resold, and they exist because the same problems kept recurring in client work.

  • ObjectiveRisk - structured, criteria-based workplace risk assessment. It separates exposure frequency from control effectiveness and evaluates each against defined criteria, so two assessors looking at the same hazard arrive at the same score. Bilingual English and French.
  • CheckOHS - occupational health and safety compliance that stays audit-ready. It consolidates equipment and facility inspections, fleet management, out-of-service workflow, the WHMIS register and corrective actions into one current record, so the evidence exists before an auditor asks for it. Bilingual English and French.

Both are built on the same principle as the consulting work: a tool people will actually use beats a document that satisfies an audit and changes nothing.
